Gary Mayerson Hey! Thank you NSASA and Elija for bringing Gary Mayerson to us. I left the conference with much more confidence in being able to negotiate with my District as well as very important steps to ensure success. I felt so good afterward, that the flat tire on my van when I went to leave didn't even dampen my mood! (FYI, if you ever have a car problem after an Elija conference, the Mobil head mechanic at the Mobil station on the corner of Old country Road is trustworthy,-thank you for helping me!!!) For those who were unable to attend, the great news is Gary Mayerson will be putting out a book in the near future!! Just a SMALL taste of simple yet important things I learned: If you don't own a fax, invest in one!--Faxing correspondense to your district is a more reliable record than certified mail. Don't ever allow a letter from your District to go unanswered. Convert meetings from I want to what the child needs. Get independent evaluations. It could be beneficial to videotape (10 minutes or so) your child every 3 months when NOT in a structured setting to validate the need for ABA and more hours. Take a log of all phone calls. Request March report of IEP goals. Thanks again! Jennica
